There is a place not accessible through downloads,
It’s instead revealed down winding country roads.
Where modernity’s false gospel and urban strife,
Are baptized by clear waters and gurgling life.

The Kingdom - A Conservation Story A Cinematic Poem Short Film In Bhutan Directed By Matthew K. Firpo (2018)

“A love letter to conservation, our changing climate, and the difference one person can make in a great big world. This is the quiet story of Sonam Phuntsho, a forest caretaker in the Kingdom of Bhutan, who has spent the last 60 years planting over 100,000 trees by hand.

We’re eternally grateful to Sonam Phuntsho who welcomed us into his home and his life, and to the volunteer team of artists that gave all of themselves to share his story.

“Edge of the Sea” by Marlin Ray

Soft dust wraps us in its rough embrace,
sea salt air dense with water.
Sunrise sea change
embraces the blue
dirt gives from the earth
soft kelp sleeve
and urchin wrap.
crayfish covering
and grey waves.
For these I sing my song.
Seaweed circus
of youthful shouts
bottomless marine world
of chance and glee.
The quiet line of breaking ocean,
for these I sing my song.
Hills slide to the edge of the sea
always fitting perfectly.
Everywhere the colors shout and twist
making joy and rain.
for these we sing our song.

Poem by: Dan Crockett

Layers lifting
Moats of light shifting
Spheres of currents dance.
At the heart of the
Wildest storm is silence;
This is old music.
There are paths
Between the reefs,
Promises on the swell and dip.
Truth in droplets of our
Saline blood.
Our bold movement asks questions.
This is a place beyond borders,
Beyond you and me to us.
We are held in sway
As a merging unfolds,
The illusion of separation crumbling.
The glow of living faces falling,
Fine lines and faint traces
To a liquid place outside time
Where all our fences are broken.
Shadows and sunlight
In which we must become whole,
To Live, to breathe, to join.

Waiting Between Worlds Cinematic Poem Short Film Directed by Goran Jovic 2017

“True Love” by Robert Penn Warren

In silence the heart raves. It utters words
Meaningless, that never had
A meaning. I was ten, skinny, red-headed,

Freckled. In a big black Buick,
Driven by a big grown boy, with a necktie, she sat
In front of the drugstore, sipping something

Through a straw. There is nothing like
Beauty. It stops your heart. It
Thickens your blood. It stops your breath. It

Makes you feel dirty. You need a hot bath.
I leaned against a telephone pole, and watched.
I thought I would die if she saw me.

How could I exist in the same world with that brightness?
Two years later she smiled at me. She
Named my name. I thought I would wake up dead.

Her grown brothers walked with the bent-knee
Swagger of horsemen. They were slick-faced.
Told jokes in the barbershop. Did no work.

Their father was what is called a drunkard.
Whatever he was he stayed on the third floor
Of the big white farmhouse under the maples for twenty-five years.

He never came down. They brought everything up to him.
I did not know what a mortgage was.
His wife was a good, Christian woman, and prayed.

When the daughter got married, the old man came down wearing
An old tail coat, the pleated shirt yellowing.
The sons propped him. I saw the wedding. There were

Engraved invitations, it was so fashionable. I thought
I would cry. I lay in bed that night
And wondered if she would cry when something was done to her.

The mortgage was foreclosed. That last word was whispered.
She never came back. The family
Sort of drifted off. Nobody wears shiny boots like that now.

But I know she is beautiful forever, and lives
In a beautiful house, far away.
She called my name once. I didn’t even know she knew it.

“To appreciate the yang in life, we need to experience the yin. Nature is teaching us a lesson. We need to take notice and learn from our mistakes and stop wasting our resources.”

“Close to my hometown of Caledon is the 7th largest fresh water catchment dam in South Africa, the Theewaterskloof Dam. With the completion of the dam in the 1980’s, together with farm houses and infrastructure, a forest of pine trees were flooded on the banks of the river and eventually died. These dead trees has become quite famous amongst photographers and provide fantastic photo opportunities when water levels is low. It is a mere half hour drive for me and a favourite shooting location ever since I started photography. I know this landscape like the inside of my hands.

In the beginning 2017, reports started to surface in the media of a drought gripping the Western Cape Province. The Theewaterskloof Dam provide the greater metropol of Cape Town of fresh drinking water and it was at it’s lowest level ever since completion. The water situation was growing dire and the drought proved to be the worst experienced in the area in 100 years.”

Spirit of Solitude Cinematic Visual Poem Short Film Directed by Danny Christensen 2017

Excerpts from “Alastor; or, The Spirit of Solitude”
by Percy Bysshe Shelley
Mother of this unfathomable world!
Favour my solemn song, for I have loved
Thee ever, and thee only; I have watched
Thy shadow, and the darkness of thy steps,
And my heart ever gazes on the depth
Of thy deep mysteries. I have made my bed
In charnels and on coffins, where black death
Keeps record of the trophies won from thee,
Hoping to still these obstinate questionings
Of thee and thine, by forcing some lone ghost
Thy messenger, to render up the tale
Of what we are. In lone and silent hours,
When night makes a weird sound of its own stillness,
Like an inspired and desperate alchymist
Staking his very life on some dark hope,
Have I mixed awful talk and asking looks
With my most innocent love, until strange tears
Uniting with those breathless kisses, made
Such magic as compels the charmèd night
To render up thy charge:…and, though ne’er yet
Thou hast unveiled thy inmost sanctuary,
Enough from incommunicable dream,
And twilight phantasms, and deep noon-day thought,
Has shone within me, that serenely now
And moveless, as a long-forgotten lyre
Suspended in the solitary dome
Of some mysterious and deserted fane,
I wait thy breath, Great Parent, that my strain
May modulate with murmurs of the air,
And motions of the forests and the sea,
And voice of living beings, and woven hymns
Of night and day, and the deep heart of man.

Grow, step back, and perspectives will change;
Just adrift on currents and unknow terrain.
As gently raised up, as sure as comes down,
Holding your course and even to ground.

“Grow is a story about ups and downs of life we all have to face sometimes, but I’d love everyone to interpret this in their own way. It’s a short personal film I’ve been working on in my spare time for the past year or so.”

Excerpts from “The Story of My Boyhood and Youth”
by John Muir
 .
“WHEN I was a boy in Scotland I was fond of everything that was wild, and all my life I’ve been growing fonder and fonder of wild places and wild creatures. Fortunately around my native town of Dunbar, by the stormy North Sea, there was no lack of wildness, though most of the land lay in smooth cultivation, With red-blooded playmates, wild as myself, I loved to wander in the fields to hear the birds sing, and along the seashore to gaze and wonder at the shells and seaweeds, eels and crabs in the pools among the rocks when the tide was low; and best of all to watch the waves in awful storms thundering on the black headlands and craggy ruins of the old Dunbar Castle when the sea and the sky, the waves and the clouds, were mingled together as one. We never thought of playing truant, but after I was five or six years old I ran away to the seashore or the fields most every Saturday, and every day in the school vacations except Sundays, though solemnly warned that I must play at home in the garden and back yard, lest I should learn to think bad thoughts and say bad words. All in vain. In spite of the sure sore punishments that followed like shadows, the natural inherited wildness in our blood ran true on its glorious course as invincible and unstoppable as stars.”
