The Universe is You Cinematic Poem Short Film In South America Directed by Tommy Plesky

“As I sat on the plane to Chile while streaming Alan Watt’s speech on my ipod, I came to realize I had to make something out of it. I traveled through South America filming the mountains of Chile, the stunning falls of Iguazu located in Argentina and Brasil, and also, adding some shots from the unique caribbean sea of México. As I gained some inspiration around those incredible places I managed to create what I call this video: “A tribute to nature”.

“SOLITAIRE”: A Cinematic Short Film Trailer On Backcountry Skiing Directed By Nicholas Waggoner (2011)

“SOLITAIRE” is a cinematic poem short film trailer on Backcountry Skiing, Snowboarding, and Telemark in South America from Sweetgrass Productions and directed by Nicholas Waggoner.

Filmed and Directed by:  Nicholas Waggoner

Produced by:  Ben Stugulewski, Zac Ramras, Michael Brown and Sweetgrass Productions. Solitaire Backcountry Skiing Film PosterIn the high desert of South America, winter takes hold, devouring bleached bones and abandoned shacks. Into these most inhospitable of lands, a handful of drifters emerge from the whiteout, ready to cast their lot on forsaken peaks both merciless and magnificent. Venturing beyond the frontiers of most mountain films, Solitaire is backcountry skiing forged in the tradition of Western cinema. Born in the spires of Argentina’s legendary Las Lenas, a lonely two-year journey begins through an abandoned world, wandering the length of a continent from Peru’s Cordillera Blanca to Chilean Patagonia.
Lost in the winds of snowbound badlands and the blizzards of primordial forests; seen from a horse’s saddle and a paraglider’s wings; ridden on ski and board and telemark…
Solitaire fuses western-inspired tales of backcountry gambles into landscapes never before visited on film.

Shot on location in: Las Lenas, Argentina; Portillo, Chile;
Nevados de Chillan, Chile; Patagonia, Chile; Bariloche, Argentina; Caviahue, Argentina; Huaraz, Peru; Iquitos, Peru; Uyuni, Bolivia; and Sajama, Bolivia.

“Arte Poética” ~ A Poem by Jorge Luis Borges

To look at the river made of time and water
And remember that time is another river,
To know that we are lost like the river
And that faces dissolve like water.

To be aware that waking dreams it is not asleep
While it is another dream, and that the death
That our flesh goes in fear of is that death
Which comes every night and is called sleep.

To see in the day or in the year a symbol
Of the days of man and of his years,
To transmute the outrage of the years
Into a music, a murmur of voices, and a symbol,

To see in death sleep, and in the sunset
A sad goldsuch is poetry,
Which is immortal and poor. Poetry
returns like the dawn and the sunset.

At times in the evenings a face
Looks at us out of the depths of a mirror;
Art should be like that mirror
Which reveals to us our own face.

They say that Ulysses, sated with marvels,
Wept tears of love at the sight of his Ithaca,
Green and humble. Art is that Ithaca
Of green eternity, not of marvels.

It is also like the river with no end
That flows and remains and is the mirror of one same
Inconstant Heraclitus, who is the same
And is another, like the river with no end.
