It was more lovely than words can say,
Flying over the moors today in an open plane.
Just floating on great, curly clouds.
Perfectly still and cool.

The lighthouse at Beachy Head,
An immense bar of light is
Splendid and must be done.

How I love the South Downs in winter.
I love its definite shapes, its
Bleached greens and browns so attuned
To the stiff brush of my watercolors.

“Imaginary Bird”: A Cinematic Poem Short Film Directed By Alex Soloviev (2018)

“Imaginary Bird” is a Cinematic Poem Short Film in Rome Featuring Poet Charles Bukowski Directed By Alex Soloviev.

Filmed, Edited and Directed by:  Alex Soloviev

Music by Jimmy Svensson / Artlist

Poem Read by: Tom O’Bedlam

“This poem is quite personal. It took much time to find way to visualize it. Dark and light parts of this video have a very special meaning.

We don our masks and our everyday armor, afraid of being found out. Afraid of being taken less seriously, as if happiness were a stain in our otherwise pristine, unbreakable facade. We hide our real selves away – our weak points and vulnerabilities. Until the time we can finally be ourselves again. Until we can finally breathe again. When no one else is looking.

The fact that from around a million to 5 millions of starlings choose the city of Rome as their wintering ground might appear as a blessing or just inspiration when you observe it. It remains one of the world’s greatest natural phenomena.”

“Bluebird” by Charles Bukowski

there’s a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I’m too tough for him,
I say, stay in there, I’m not going
to let anybody see
you.

there’s a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I pour whiskey on him and inhale
cigarette smoke
and the whores and the bartenders
and the grocery clerks
never know that
he’s
in there.

there’s a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I’m too tough for him,
I say,
stay down, do you want to mess
me up?
you want to screw up the
works?
you want to blow my book sales in
Europe?

there’s a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I’m too clever, I only let him out
at night sometimes
when everybody’s asleep.
I say, I know that you’re there,
so don’t be
sad.

then I put him back,
but he’s singing a little
in there, I haven’t quite let him
die
and we sleep together like
that
with our
secret pact
and it’s nice enough to
make a man
weep, but I don’t
weep, do
you?

Excerpts from Letters and Poems of Wilfred Owen

Boys
Breaking the surface of the ebony pond.
Flashes
Of swimmers carving through the sparkling cold
Fleshes
Gleaming with wetness to the morning gold.

Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

“There are special places when you arrive there, you feel like you’re at home. I was in one. A small town in Spain, Blanes. Quiet and cozy in the off-season when there’re no packs of tourists on a big buses. This is more personal video. There is no many complicated transitions and shots, but rather attempt to convey the feeling of coziness of this place.”

“Time In Eternity” by Tom Merrill

When you were as an angel in my arms,
Had laid your bare head just below my chin,
Your length pressed up to mine, entrusting charms
My whole youth’s starward longing could not win;
With still the murmur of your love in me,
Miracle-tones of all my lifelong hope,
I wished that there might start eternity
And seal forever that sweet envelope;

And as it did, my thoughts are now for you
As every star is blotted by the sun,
And so the sun itself
Has perished too,
And with it, every dream of mine
But one.

“In Flanders Fields” by John McCrae (1915)

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
