Music by: Bart Kalkman
Rotterdam-based director Charlene van Kasteren talks about Untie, a film she co-directed with Dutch filmmaker Guust Mulder, about a man trying to recall his memories by writing them down:
“Guust and I were planning a sabbatical to China and Indonesia. As filmmakers we always have the urge to shoot something. To simply ‘shoot anything’ is too random, so we ended up with a theme linked to the song “Ne Me Quitte Pas” by Belgian singer Jacques Brel. Every shot we took had to be related to this feeling.
“Slowly we found out what story our sabbatical wanted to tell: the story of forgetting memories and holding onto life”
