Excerpt from “The Waves” by Boris Pasternak

We were in Georgia. You can get this land
If hell is multiplied by paradise,
Bare indigence by tenderness, and if
A hothouse serves as pedestal for ice.

And then you’ll know what subtle doses of
Success and labor, duty, mountain air
Make the right mixture with the earth and sky
For man to be the way we found him there.

“A few months ago, a friend and I went to discover Morocco for a personal project. It was an amazing experience for both of us, and some of the witnessed places were breathtaking. I’m pretty sure that I’ll be back sooner or later.

So, with some of the images that we recorded, I made this little tribute to Mr. Charles Bukowski and his poem ‘The Laughing Heart’. And, of course, to my colleague Izhan, who’s being a fellow companion these last couple of years. For more adventures like this!”

“The Laughing Heart” by Charles Bukowski

your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is a light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
know them.
take them.
you can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous
the gods wait to delight
in you.

“Postscript” by Seamus Heaney

Some time make the time to drive out west
Into County Clare, along the Flaggy Shore,
In September or October, when the wind
And the light are working off each other
So that the ocean on one side is wild
With foam and glitter, and inland among stones
The surface of a slate-grey lake is lit
By the earthed lightening of flock of swans,
Their feathers roughed and ruffling, white on white,
Their fully-grown headstrong-looking heads
Tucked or cresting or busy underwater.
Useless to think you’ll park or capture it
More thoroughly. You are neither here nor there,
A hurry through which known and strange things pass
As big soft buffetings come at the car sideways
And catch the heart off guard and blow it open.

Located in the Mora Valley, just two hours east of Santa Fe, in one of the darkest, most pristine night sky regions of the country, Fort Union once protected the trade route alongside Mountain and Cimarron Branches of the old Santa Fe Trail. The remnants of the second of three forts constructed in 1851, mostly made of fragile adobe, are protected and preserved by the National Park Service, and give us a glimpse of the tranquil grasslands, distant mountains and near perfect dark skies that soldiers stationed here once upon a time enjoyed.

The forts built here landed from 1851 to 1891 and during the Civil War was the only thing standing between Confederate Army which had taken control of Santa Fe and their potential invasion of Denver. Between March 26 to 28, 1862, Union and Confederate forces clashed at Battle of Glorieta Pass for the control of Fort Union and the Union forces won, effectively ending Confederate dream of sweeping across New Mexico. This battle is featured in Sergio Leone legendary western film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

US Army bugle call TAPS (a.k.a. Butterfield’s Lullaby, arranged by Union Army Brigadier General Daniel Butterfield) featured at the opening of the video was originally accompanied by melancholic ode-to-the-night-sky lyrics by Horace Lorenzo Trim

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.

Fading light, dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.

Thanks and praise, for our days,
‘Neath the sun, ‘neath the stars, neath the sky;
As we go, this we know, God is nigh.

Sun has set, shadows come,
Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds
Always true to the promise that they made.

While the light fades from sight,
And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend.

“Shaped during the previous ice age, the Danish peninsula Jutland offers very diverse landscapes – smoothed by the ice in the west and very hilly in the east. This video takes you on a time-lapse journey across the peninsula, which forms the western part of Denmark.  Jutland 4K has been my personal project, and I have spent a little more than one and a half year in the field chasing the best light, the best views and the clearest night skies.”

“Route 44”: A Cinematic Time-Lapse Short Film In South Africa Directed By Liesel Kershoff (2016)

“Route 44” is a Cinematic Time-Lapse Short Film in Western Cape, South Africa Filmed and Directed by Liesel Kershoff.

Route 44 Cinematic Time-Lapse Short Film in South Africa Directed by Liesel Kershoff

“The R44 in South Africa is a provincial route that connect Piketberg to Kleinmond, running past historical towns like Stellenbosch on it’s way to the Atlantic Ocean.

The most spectacular part of this route is between Gorden’s Bay and Betty’s Bay where it winds along the coast through the Kogel Bay region. Sheer cliffs fall into the Atlantic Ocean with the R44 hugging the mountain on winding turns.

This short film covers the scenes I explored; starting at Betty’s Bay, passing Pringle Bay and Rooi Els and ends at the Steenbras River mouth (Gorden’s Bay) with a beautiful green saltwater pool caught between slabs of rock and a full moon rising over the mountain.”
