“Lady Of The Sea” – A Cinematic Poem Short Film By Emmett Sparling And Chelsea Yamase (2020)

“Lady of the Sea” is a Cinematic Poem Short Film Directed by Emmett Sparling.

Filmed and Directed by: Emmett Sparling

This is the first short film I’ve made in quite a while and I’m super excited to share it. Chelsea and I spent 17 days in French Polynesia filming this video. The first half of the trip felt like an uphill battle. Everything we tried shooting didn’t feel “right” and we were feeling pretty uninspired, even in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

There once was a lady from the sea
Born from the corals and the currents,
The tides and the waves.
Her home was powerful, ever-changing
and expansive.

In a wave of creativity and energized focus, Chelsea and I came up with the concept for ‘Lady of the Sea’ and excitedly wrote the beginnings of the narrative down in my journal. The moment Chelsea got in the water wearing the dress, we knew this would be a pretty unique project.

JISEI is an experimental short film that follows the recollection of one’s memories as they experience death.

Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep‘ by Mary Elizabeth Frye

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

English Translation by: Madeleine Barter

“Between the desert peaks and the wild plains, Itinerary of the man alone; poisoned, in love, alive.”

I invite you on the trails of Tignes in Savoie, under the August sun, to breathe the fresh air! A little vastness, horizons blurred to forget for a few moments our confined lives.

A first FKY / Srevol collaboration, with a text written for the film, and read by a young Simeon with a rocky voice.

I Approach

tightrope walking earthling
lying heavily on rock
I look for your softness
Your suspended caresses

In my solitude, I approach

My bones follow your tracks
Along smoke-filled banks,
Burns under your sun
My masterful soul

In my solitude, I approach

My wings poisoned
by oily molecules
accept my sorrow
my ghostly pardon

In my solitude, I approach

Tightrope walking earthling
With smoky soul, I approach
I burn in your softness
Masterful earth

—————————————

Je viens

Funambule terrien,
Aimanté à la roche,
Je cherche tes douceurs,
Tes caresses suspendues.

Dans ma solitude, je viens

Mes os suivent ta piste,
Aux rivages enfumés
Je brûle sous ton soleil
Mon âme de capitaine

Dans ma solitude, je viens

mes ailes empoisonnées
de molécules pétroliennes
accepte mon désolé
mon pardon fumigène

Dans ma solitude, je viens

Funambule terrien,
A l’âme enfumée je viens
Je brûle dans ta douceur,
Terre capitaine

Tignes is a group of villages that form a high-altitude ski resort in the French Alps, near the Italian border. With nearby Val d’Isère, it’s part of the Espace Killy ski area, linked by a network of lifts. Val Claret and Tignes Le Lac villages are lively hubs, with restaurants and shops. In summer, the area offers trails, golf and a bike park, plus ski runs on the Grande Motte glacier.

“Lost Places”: A Cinematic Poem CGI Short Film By Fabian Aerts (2020)

“Lost Places” is a Cinematic Poem Short Film Created and Directed by Fabian Aerts.

Created, Produced and Directed by: Fabian Aerts

Words and Narration by: Alan Watts

Lost Places is a little series i worked on the last couple of weeks. The initial idea was to challenge myself in the creation of full CG environments. I wanted to create large scale scenes and elaborated landscapes. But next to that, the mysterious beauty of abandoned places always fascinated me. I’m addicted to travel but unfortunately the current pandemic and the lock down forced us to stay safe at home for long months so i guess it was for me the only way to explore some far away lands and imaginary countries. Alan Watts wise words resonated and helped me put all this research together and make sense of it.

“A Short Film About Ice”: A Cinematic Poem Short Film By Adam DJ Laity (2020)

“A Short Film About Ice” is a Cinematic Poem Short Film” in Arctic Directed by Adam DJ Laity.

Filmed, Edited and Directed by: Adam DJ Laity

A film-poem documenting the journey of a cinematographer through the changing landscapes of the Arctic.

Why did I come here?
To immerse myself in a sublime landscape,
To in some way be a witness to the
Change that is happening here?
We think by feeling.
What is there to know
?

The camera bears witness to the shapes and colours of glaciers, tundra, mountains and sea ice while the filmmaker explores the role of the human and the artist in such landscapes in the time of the Anthropocene.

Touching on themes of aesthetics, cultural responsibility, inter-connectivity and eco-anxiety the film aims to provoke discussion about the need to re-conceptualise how we make and disseminate images, in order to see ourselves as an integral part of the world rather than seeing ourselves as in front of or separate to nature.

“Most People Are Pretty Nice”: A Cinematic Poem Short Film Directed By Stephen McNally (2020)

“Most People Are Pretty Nice” is a Cinematic Poem Animated Short Film Featuring Author and Historian Rutger Bregman Directed by Stephen McNally.

Directed by: Stephen McNally

Produced by: Abi Stephenson
Animation: Jac Clinch & Diana Gradinaru

Narrated by: Rutger Bregman

‘We have taken huge steps towards tackling some of the biggest threats on humanity throughout history, and in many ways our lives have never been better! So where do we go from here? Author and historian Rutger Bregman argues that in order to continue towards a better world, we need big ideas and a robust vision of the future. Revolutionary ideas, that were once dismissed as a utopian fantasy, became reality through people believing there was a better way – but what if our progress is hindered by our own dim view of human nature?’

In early 2019 I spent four months living in a tent at Estancia Ranquilco, a remote horse and cattle ranch nestled deep in the foothills of the Andean mountains in Northern Patagonia, Argentina. Largely stripped of modern conveniences and offering a chance to experience off-grid, communal living, it is both a gentle, and harsh, return to primitiveness.

Yet the magnetic pull from Ranquilco reaches far beyond the realms of sentimentalism. It is not merely a vague summation of its parts. Of earth, water, sun, grass and trees. It is the past as well as the present, built into the stonework and in the footsteps of the worn paths on the last edges of land, hanging on the horizon.

For those devoted to this way of life, it is simply a return to the familiar.
